Below, you will find several resources that we have determined could be very useful in extending weather-based lessons. You may recognize a couple of the websites provided from our research activity, and in fact, all of these sites are kid-friendly, good for use in the classroom with teacher guidance, or at home with parental involvement.
We have also compiled a set of instructions for the Prezi and Flash Cards activities. These can be printed, reviewed prior to lesson instruction, and/or used as guides while students complete the activities. (Click Word icons to view).

Weather Wiz Kids: This website was designed by a meteorologist and includes in-depth information about weather phenomena, natural disasters, and local weather reports. It also includes pictures and weather based experiments.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac for Kids: This website allows you to look at local weather data including the time for sunrise/sunset. It also has a weather word of the week, find out the weather on the day you were born, and weather related puzzles.

University of Illinois Tree House: This website is designed to look like a child’s treehouse while exploring the outside weather. It details different types of weather, air pressures, winds, and types of clouds. There are interactive games including an cloud identification game.

Weather for Kids: This website focuses on facts about different types of weather. It includes a list of live weather cameras listed by state. There are also worksheets and quizzes that can be used by teachers or parents.

University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), Web Weather for Kids: This website includes all the facts about different kinds of weather and inclement weather. Another interesting aspect is that this website has an entire section dedicated to safety during different types of weather.

Freddy the Frogcaster: This website is the home of the book by the same name which we used in our Flash Cards activity. While it primarily serves to promote and introduce the author, Janice Dean, and her books, this site also features an activities page that can teach students how to watch for inclement weather, measure rainfall, and more.
